SELECTION PROCEDURE AND ENTRY LEVEL


   
  PRIMARY SCHOOL LEVEL
   
  Age : From 11 years to 13 years
  Education Level : Class V to VIII
   
Institutions :

(a)
RASHTRIYA INDIAN MILITARY COLLEGE (RIMS)  
   

Only 25 cadets are admitted every six months.  Candidates should not be less than              11 ½ years of age or must not have attained the age of 13 years on 01 Jan and 01 Jul of the term they join.  Admissions are made to Class VIII only.  The candidate must be studying in Class VII or above in a recognized school at the time of joining.  Application forms are to be submitted to respective State Governments.  Candidates are selected on the basis of their performance in an All India Entrance Examination held twice a year comprising a written examination consisting of test papers in English (125 marks), Mathematics (200 marks) and General Knowledge (75 Marks). Successful candidates are called for Viva – Voce test (50 marks).  A merit list is prepared and those who qualify are sent for medical examinations.  Candidates who successfully clear the medical examination are offered admission. Location at Dehradun – UP.

SAINIK SCHOOL  
  Each state has a Sainik School.
   
(c)
MILITARY SCHOOL
   
  Bangalore,Dholpur, Chail, Belgaum and Ajmer.
   
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
   
 
Selection is through a written test conducted at the State level once in a year.  These schools provide education of a high standard upto XII standard and prepare boys to appear for the UPSC exam conducted to join NDA and Naval Academy.  Those who score more than 70% marks in PCM in class XII can join Technical Services of Army, Navy and Air Force.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
   
 
Selection to these institutions is made through a written test conducted twice a year generally in the month of Jan and Jul by UPSC at All India Level at different centres.  Advertisements come generally in the month of April and October in all leading News papers.  Those who qualify in the written tests are further sent to various Service Selection Boards.

Age : From 19 Years to 24 years. Engineer graduates 20 to 27 years.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Written tests are conducted by UPSC twice in a year generally in the month of Jan and July. Advertisements come in Apr and Oct every year. Those who qualify are further tested in various Service Selection Boards (SSB). For more details visit UPSC web site. www.upsc.gov.in.


   
 
Engineering graduates and those who have secured more than 70% marks in PCM go directly to SSB for selection procedure.  Details are published in leading Newspapers and the respective websites.
 
  COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICE EXAMINATIONS
 
 
The Combined Defence Service Examinations is conducted by UPSC. Candidates must be in the age group of 19-24 years. At the time of submitting the applications, the candidates are required to give their preferences for particular wings of the Defence Forces. The advertisement for the September Examination usually appears in April, every year, in all major national and regional newspapers. Similarly, the advertisement for the April examination usually appears in September/October of the previous year.  Simultaneously a comprehensive advertisement with all details also appears in the “Employment News” of the concerned week and also in the website www.upsc.gov.in.
